Practical PhD’s Company Values

  • We are cheerleaders for people working to meet personal educational and growth goals. Whenever possible, we structure our operation to make accomplishing these goals easier for team members. We recommend educational resources to our clients, and continually seek out learning ourselves.

  • We believe that most problems can be solved by a good idea at the right time. We believe in the power of ideas, and we help ourselves and our clients remove constraints and solve problems by applying creative thinking. We think it’s almost always possible to get unstuck by thinking differently about the problem.

  • We don’t believe there is only one right way to do most things. We try not to impose our “shoulds” on clients; instead we help them articulate their goals and choose for themselves how they want to work toward those goals. We offer expertise and advice, but we never take over the driver’s seat. The only “should” we promote is that people should talk with each other when problems arise.

  • We believe in giving every situation the effort it deserves, including being willing to do hard things that need to be done when they need to be done. We spend the extra effort to do things well. We are diligent and not sloppy. We don’t work every minute of the day, but whenever we do work, we give it our all.

  • Though we believe in individual effort, we also believe in the power of systems. Good systems help us reliably do what we intend. They enable us to be our best selves more of the time. We use systems to align group effort and increase quality for our clients, and a primary value we offer clients is our Right Hand Roadmap™ system. We always keep in mind that systems work for us, we don’t work for them, meaning we are willing to change systems when they don’t serve our goals.

About the Founder

Dr. Heather Stone

Heather has been a company president four times, a business owner twice, and she is an award-winning instructor. She was a Vistage CE member for four years. She has an MBA and a PhD in Organizational Communication.

Heather lives in Utah and is married with four children and two grandchildren. She has experience in family businesses, where Right Hand issues can be especially complex. She is also a runner at heart, and sometimes in practice. She is co-author of The Problem of Togetherness book and author of the Getting the Right Hand Right book, both of which are slated for a 2026 release.

Heather created Getting the Right Hand Right training after working with countless CEOs who needed a top leader but were stuck because they did not know how to find, hire, and manage one. When CEOs figure out how to have another top leader in the room, they are finally able to scale, sell, or step away.
